During a visit to Switzerland in July 2013 led by Hu Chunhua, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the Guangdong Provincial CPC Committee, the Chinese and Swiss parties reached consensus on strengthening collaboration in such areas as finance, bio-pharmaceutical, and precision manufacturing. Subsequently, and as requested by the Provincial CPC Committee and Government of Guangdong, Zhongshan City planned to build a China-Switzerland collaborative industrial park in the Advanced Manufacturing Area of Cuihang New District. After the China-Switzerland Free Trade Agreement came into effect in 2014, Zhongshan Sino-Swiss (European) Industrial Park correspondingly strengthened its construction and investment attraction efforts.
